Sales of Multimedia Phones To Pass TVs Next Year

Interesting article i came across on Information Week saying that next year sales of multimedia phones will surpass sales of TV units. This shows how fast mobile industry is expanding and demand for more multimedia rich handsets is increasing.

Article mentions that multimedia-enabled mobile phones will exceed 300 million units next year and will generate over $76 billion in revenue. They also claim that 90% of phones by 2011 will have photo sensor, video and audio playback capability, Java, USB, Bluetooth, 16-bit screen color, QVGA resolution, as well as Wireless Application Protocol and Multimedia Message Service support.

Also according to another report, cellphone industry is the largest consumer electronics sector in the world and sales are growing everyday with holiday season approaching. Nokia is leading with market share of 38.1%, followed by Samsung with 14.5%, Motorola 13.1%, Sony Ericsson 8.8% and LG Electronics 7.1%
