Z780 and G502 – New Phones From Sony Ericsson

Two new phones were announced by Sony Ericsson today: Z780 and G502. Both phones are HSDPA enabled phones and come with Google Maps application pre-installed. Both phones have simple web email setup and support Exchange ActiveSync.

Z780 is a clamshell phone and has GPS module built in. That comes handy when using applications such as Google Maps, which is also pre-installed. You will know exactly where is your location at the moment and will be able to find your way around more quickly!

Press release reports that Z780 is a UMTS/HSDPA 850/1900/2100 and GSM/GPRS/EDGE 850/900/1800/1900 phone that will be available in Grand Onyx and Amethyst Silver in selected markets from Q2 2008.

G502 is classic candy bar phone with HSDPA connectivity. This phone does not have GPS module built in but it is lighter and thinner than Z780. Rest of the features are the same, this phone comes either in Champagne Black or Brilliant Hazel. Again this phone will be available in Q2 2008.

Sony Ericsson announced W890i model last year, but it is still not yet offered by major UK mobile operators. This phone is targeted at image-conscious young professionals and improves from W880.

Phone has 3.2 megapixel camera, 2 inch screen, Walkman media player, HSDPA (3.5G) and only 9.9mm thick. There is 2GB memory bundled, so you can store more than enough music to get you going through the day.

This model currently showing as coming soon on websites of T-Mobile, Vodafone and Orange but may be available to buy from other retailers. We will keep and eye and inform when phone becomes available on major networks, watch this space!

Maria Sharapova and Sony Ericsson sign 4 year contract

Maria Sharapova, female tennis player (aged 20 and ranked fifth in the world) and Sony Ericsson signed exclusive four year sponsorship agreement for Maria Sharapova to become the company’s first global brand ambassador.

Sharapova is expected to promote Sony Ericsson brand and products. Here are comments from Dee Dutta, Corporate Vice President and Head of Marketing at Sony Ericsson:

Sony Ericsson announced Z555 with Gesture Control

According to latest press release from mobile phone maker Sony Ericsson, company announced new clamshell handset that can respond to your hand movement. Here is what Sony Ericsson say about this feature:

“When a call comes in, a simple movement of your hand back and forth over the phone mutes the ringtone. Similarly, sweep your hand over the phone when using it as your alarm clock to put it into ‘snooze’ mode.”

I am not sure how useful this feature is, have to try it when it comes out.
